A Conversation with the Head of The Olympian Academy, A Global Talent Accelerator

With technology becoming more and more integrated into our lives, it's clear that the technology market needs new talent. Yet, with the rise of new technologies like AI, machine learning, and blockchain, the talent gap is widening. But where will these new tech talent come from? With the demand for tech professionals growing faster than ever, how can we help our community prepare for this future? With many organizations scrambling to find the right talent with technical and professional skills, The Olympian Academy is stepping in to help narrow the talent gap.

Here, we sat down with Lefteris Ntaflos, the Executive Director of Global Talent, and Head of The Olympian Academy at ITCS Group to dive into his perspective and insights on the current and future tech landscape and answer the top questions about our technology training and coaching academy — The Olympian Academy.

How did The Olympian Academy start, can you tell us the story behind it? How do you and the academy bring universities, organizations, and candidates together?

Lefteris Ntaflos, Executive Director, Global Talent, ITCS Group

"We want to give everyone the opportunity to thrive in the IT world."

The idea of The Olympian Academy was conceived in October 2021, when we identified certain needs. Organizations needed talent. Candidates needed career change; many people lost their jobs because of COVID-19; others wanted to switch to IT because they see a great future there; the numbers of individuals returning to work are always there. And of course, there is always the gap between having a university degree and actually being qualified for a role, along with having working experience. On top of that, The Olympian Academy does not require a university degree. We want to give everyone the opportunity to thrive in the IT world. Candidates, organizations, and universities clearly understood this unique opportunity, and everyone was delighted to support us and be a part of our family.

How does The Olympian Academy differ from other training centers and how does it help address the tech talent shortage for organizations? What kind of IT positions and skills do you think will be most in-demand in the future?

"The cloud is the future, and our training is heavily based on that."

The Olympian Academy is not a training center where the trainee pays to get trained. Instead, we pay the trainee from day one of training. For candidates we believe that have the potential for an IT career, we invest in them, hire them as ITCS group employees and provide them with training and certifications in cutting-edge technologies that are and will be in demand as well, such as IT support, hybrid on-premises and cloud administration, security, development and operations, and software development lifecycle and methodologies. The cloud is the future, and our training is heavily based on that. At the same time, we ensure the placement of our graduates with the best companies that are in our client portfolio.

What are the top three qualities for becoming a successful technology training and coaching academy? As the academy empowers and champions diversity, inclusion, and return to work initiatives, what are your top tips to create a safe and inclusive working environment?

The Olympian Academy department

  1. Care for the trainees
  2. Be on top of technology
  3. Keep improving and growing; provide more opportunities and choices

Diversity & Inclusion and Return to Work are among our top values. The nature of the Olympian Academy ensures diversity in age, gender, ethnicity, and background, while we make sure that everyone feels included and supported in this difficult journey. The best tip for creating a safe and inclusive working environment is to understand that everyone has the same goal: to succeed. In addition, everyone needs support; by embracing their teammates and lifting each other up in difficult times, our trainees have created a warm and supportive environment for everyone to succeed. Speaking up is also very important; we constantly encourage our trainees to communicate their concerns, or any situations that may have put them in a difficult position. Communication is the key, and it helps ensure that all employees feel safe and included.

"The Olympian Academy training program is tailored for the cloud."

It is definitely the cloud. Scalability, flexibility, elasticity, lower costs, no hardware ownership or maintenance, and many other of its benefits are becoming clearer than ever by organizations and technologists, and that is the reason why major players in the IT world (Microsoft, Amazon, Google) are investing heavily on the cloud. The Olympian Academy training program is tailored for the cloud; we help our trainees understand all the benefits of the cloud, get familiar with different providers and frameworks, and eventually become experts in that field and become highly valued in the IT industry.

The pandemic has changed our lives. Suddenly, almost everyone had to work from home, and get familiar and capable to do that. The only way to achieve that was digitalization. Online conferences, collaboration, data storage, work with enterprise applications and get updated in a secure manner are all enabled through digital transformation. This is a global phenomenon, and APAC does not differ in the necessity of adoption of digital practices, tools, and frameworks.

The Future of The Olympian Academy

The Olympian Academy is committed to expanding its reach and providing more opportunities to people worldwide. Currently, they are thriving in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan—but now they are setting their sights on the United States. They are thrilled to open a new chapter there and look forward to working with talent and clients in this region. Europe will also be one of their future expansion targets, as they believe they can provide value currently missing from many European countries.

The academy is currently rolling out more program streams in coordination with their clients and market needs, such as Data Center Operations and Audio Visual Support. At the same time, they are looking at other hot areas, namely Data Science and Analytics, AI, and Blockchain, to incorporate them into their business model, as there is a growing demand for skilled professionals who can manage and manipulate large data sets.
